This paper presents the findings of a research study investigating India's national innovation system. It examines the elements and inherent strengths and weaknesses of India's innovation system, particularly in the knowledge-intensive sectors. The authors conclude that India is in the process of emerging as a major research and design hub for both large and medium-sized multinational companies in various industries. Moreover, the authors argue that India's government has historically taken proactive steps to support advancements in research and design and education.
