This paper analyzes the crisis surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and the dual strategy of diplomacy and sanctions. The authors argue that this strategy has achieved little so far, since Iran refuses to suspend its uranium enrichment activities and may become a nuclear threshold country. They examine the options for action and find that the effectiveness of military strikes is disputed, and there is no legitimacy for use of force at this point. According to them, it is creative diplomacy that is required most, especially on the part of the new US administration.
