This publication examines standards and labels for agricultural products fostering economic development. The study reviews a number of the existing ethical standards and labels in terms of their objectives, scale and scope of their coverage, their impact on participating farmers, compliance costs and broader development impacts. The standards examined include those of the Rainforest Alliance and the Marine Stewardship Council.
