This paper explores the evolution and current status of international safeguards implemented by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It surveys the evolution of the IAEA safeguarding system and assess future prospects for the nuclear nonproliferation regime and safeguarding measures. The author calls on the international community to broaden the scope of IAEA safeguards to improve international security.
