This policy brief addresses the week-long ethnic violence, principally between the Bodo tribes and the Muslim settlers, that happened in northern Assam in October 2008. After introducing the land, the people and the politics in Daran and Udalguri provinces, the author examines who exactly started the violence and analyzes how local politics were at play. He concludes with suggestions for the way forward.
