This paper demonstrates the impact of information technology (IT) and globalization on innovation. The author argues that IT and globalization together may cause loss of competitiveness and decline in growth and welfare in certain locations. On the other side, he also shows that IT and globalization may enhance cross-border knowledge diffusion and help to recharge domestic knowledge creation and industrial upgrading.
