This publication assesses the situation of North Korea in 2008. It particularly examines the relations between North and South Korea and North Korea's problems with food shortages. It also discusses the country's nuclear verification issues as well as the situation of its political leadership. In their conclusion, the authors expect 2009 to be characterized by continuing economic distress and turbulent nuclear negotiations.
