This paper analyzes key issues in energy trade and cooperation between the EU and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS). The first section examines the oil demand trends and forecasts in the EU. The second and third sections explore the Russian and Caspian energy supplies as well as potential resources. The last section characterizes transportation options, infrastructure capacity trends, cooperation and prospects. The paper concludes with recommendations for cooperation in the field of energy supply.
