This report looks at the "O'Connor inquiry" and the "Iacobucci inquiry" established by the Canadian government to examine the country's involvement in the detention and torture of four citizens abroad. First, the author explains the context in which the inquiries occurred. Canada and European nations are struggling with the pressure and desire to cooperate in an effective fight against terrorism. However, the rights of their citizens have not always been protected. Second, the author highlights some of the costs that have arisen throughout the inquiry process. Finally, she reviews the findings of the inquiries and finally assesses the Canadian commission of inquiry model.
