This paper discusses the history, current state and future of power sharing arrangements in post-conflict Nepal. The author argues that although power sharing allowed for cooperative action between the Maoists and their erstwhile enemies prior to the elections in April 2008, the majority rule-model needs to be adopted in the post-election period in order to avoid stagnation and enable reforms, particularly in the security sector. The paper includes an appendix of excerpts from the November 2006 peace treaty between the government and the Maoists.
