This brief examines how Tanzanians prioritize the various responsibilities of a member of parliament (MP) and assesses how well their MPs fulfill these roles. It finds that, contrary to popular belief, Tanzanians prefer their MPs to focus their efforts on representation, and only to a lesser extent, constituency services. Moreover, they demonstrate very little interest in the oversight function of Parliament.
