This paper analyzes the position of the people of Botswana on freedom of speech and media freedom according to an October 2008 survey. The author points to the government of Botswana's efforts to curtail some of the freedoms of speech and press, although the country was traditionally renowned for its democratic media independence and openness. He finds that these developments run counter to the will of the people.
