This paper explores the political economy of China's transition to capitalism. It analyzes key elements of China's capitalist transition and compares it to other models of capitalist development. It surveys, moreover, the contours of China's emerging economy, arguing that the transition is incomplete. The author also spotlights Beijing's reluctance to engage in political reforms.
