This report presents basic statistics on the perceptions, attitudes and actions of citizens towards democracy and the economic reform program in Malawi. The author offers a preliminary analysis and interpretation based on a national survey of public attitudes conducted in 1999. The report includes a brief presentation of the context of the study and the methodology. It presents results in five main areas: democratic consolidation, state legitimacy, government performance, economic reform and performance and citizenship.
