This paper offers a theoretical discussion on the structural problems and limitations of the historical narratives presented in history books in Cyprus. It focuses on the underlying ideological principles guiding the representations of history, and specifically on terms, context and boundaries; the representation of group identity; continuity, legitimacy and exclusion; and history's characters and protagonists.
