This report examines the relationship of historical, economic, and demographic factors on Cape Verdean evaluations of democracy and market reforms. It draws on the Afrobarometer survey administered in 2002. The findings are organizes in terms of attitudes toward democracy, the economy and sources of conflict. The authors analyze the relation between attitudes toward democracy and market economy and conclude with a discussion of Cape Verde in the context of Africa.
