This report analyzes a national sample survey conducted shortly after Kenya's transition to democracy in 2002. It presents findings with respect to the social, political and economic atmosphere in the country, and their implications for democratic consolidation and governance. The authors compare the results with 14 other African countries. They find that Kenyans have the most positive assessments of their government’s performance, quality of democracy and condition of the national economy, compared with other countries in the Afrobarometer.
