This paper examines the impact of gonorrhea on population growth in Micronesia, during the Japanese occupation from 1919-1945. The author looks at the underlying causes and modes of transmission of the gonorrhea epidemic using data from the island of Yap. The author calculates the impact of gonorrhea on native population growth and identifies some of the causes behind its transmission. Her analysis reveals uninhibited transmission and infection of gonorrhea among island natives, since no form of treatment was available at the time. She concludes with an estimate of the population growth that was limited due to gonorrhea-induced infertility.
