The aim of this study is to discern which lifestyle factors - such as media habits, education or standard of living - have an effect on the likelihood of women being overweight or obese in northern India. These effects are estimated using binary and multinomial logistic regression methods, with the discovery that education and place of residence are the more important covariates for younger women aged 15 to 29, while for older women, aged 30 to 49, media habits and living standard are the more important. The effects of being overweight or obese on adverse pregnancy outcomes are also examined, and the authors suggest that those women who fall in the above weight categories may experience an increased risk of miscarriage or stillbirth.
