This working paper uses a micro-environmental model in order to assess the daily integrated exposure of women and children to respirable suspended particulates (RSP) in two slums in Delhi. The effects of using kerosene as opposed to wood for cooking are examined and indoor background levels of particulates are measured. The authors discover that the outdoor levels of RSP measured - the levels most commonly used in research and policy formulation - both underestimated the daily integrated exposure level, and were also poorly correlated with it.
