This paper examines China's regional and global 'power' in relation to its 'peer competitor,' the US. The author argues that while it is unlikely that China will present an effective challenge the US' primacy in global affairs by 2050, it increasingly presents a regional challenge for the US in East Asia, which can have global ramifications. To estimate the components of Chinese power, the author comparatively analyzes China's economic, political, military and environmental issues.
