This paper examines the links between aging populations and economic growth in East Asian countries from 1945-2000. The authors explore the relationship between economic policy and population growth, noting the impact of fertility and mortality rates on economic growth. They argue that appropriate economic policies could produce a second 'demographic dividend' in the region. They conclude that aging populations may be a strong source of economic growth and prosperity for the region.
