This paper examines the effects of the 2008 Caucasian War between Russia and Georgia on the EU and NATO. The authors discuss the relationship between the West and Russia from a systemic viewpoint and addresses the question whether a new Cold War is possible. They also investigate the role of the EU which is torn between its economic interests in Russia and it's security problem the Caucasian War uncovered. The paper concludes with the observation that cooperation is the only way to deal with Russia and examines policy options for the West.
