This brief stresses the food security problems posed by invasive plants in Africa and suggests specific measures to deal with the problem. The brief’s author specifically argues that invasive plants lower the productivity of important crops and take over fields. Unfortunately, policymakers have given the problem little attention. To reverse this indifference, the author suggests using earth observation data to 1) raise awareness, 2) conduct more in-depth case studies, and 3) produce more evidence and maps of the phenomenon.
