Around 2012-2013, there were those who anticipated a “scramble for Greenland,” especially by Russian and Chinese mining interests. OK, so why didn’t it happen? The authors of this brief, after looking at why this story arose in the first place, believe that Danish media played an important part in hyping up this possibility and that it may actually have deterred Beijing from further investing in Greenland.
