As commentators continue to give short shrift to positive developments in North Africa, this policy note provides an alternative perspective. The note’s author specifically calls on the international community to abandon the omnipresent labeling of North Africa as a region plagued by violence and authoritarianism. Instead, states and international organizations should take a more positive stance – i.e., they should re-engage the region by tapping into potential investment opportunities there, and encourage more constructive interaction with local populations.
