This report examines the two overarching mechanisms established by the AU to strengthen democratic governance and attain peace and security in Africa, the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). The text’s author finds that while the AU has made some progress in enhancing interaction and cooperation between these the AGA and APSA, it is still falling short when it comes to ensuring that the two mechanisms can deliver on their mandates. In response, the report concludes with recommendations for the AU’s member states, Commission, Peace and Security Council and other stakeholders on how to increase synergy between the AGA and ASPA.
