The author of this paper has no doubts - The security of the Maghreb, particularly for Europe, is not a marginal concern when compared with the Middle East. In this survey of the region, the paper takes stock of 1) the current chaos in Libya, to include the extremist threats the divided country faces; 2) the long-standing tensions between Morocco and Algeria; 3) the broader security crisis in the Sahel and Sahara, and much more.
