This policy briefing focuses on the South African mining sector and identifies 1) the economic difficulties it’s currently facing, and 2) the trust deficit that exists between the South African government and mining companies. To overcome these problems, the briefing recommends that Pretoria should implement a secondment program for civil servants to work in the mining sector. Such a program would ideally help rebuild trust, share expertise, and produce more effective mining sector policies.
