This report evaluates how BP (the energy multinational) faces up to challenges coming from the emerging and broadening corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda. It starts off with a brief overview of BP's history and involvement in countries with poor performance on social and poverty-related indicators. Next, it provides empirical support for accusations against BP, followed by an assessment of BP's external communications on CSR issues. The report argues that BP puts strong emphasis on communicating to the public what it perceives to be key CSR issues and how it aims to act upon them. It finds that BP generally exhibits a high degree of consistency.
