This guide aims to assist mine action programs and directors in mine action contracting through explaining the use of contracts for mine clearance and survey. The first three sections provide a background to contracting, covering the various types of contracts and agreements used, grants, subcontracting and outsourcing, best value in procurement and the tendering process. The subsequent sections cover specific aspects of the contracting process such as legal and gender issues, contract management, insurance, land release and equipment procurement.
