This training manual provides guidance on monitoring in mine and explosive remnants of war risk education (MRE). It has four objectives: to improve monitoring practice in mine action in general, and MRE in particular; to consider and understand the value of planning as a simple yet effective monitoring system; to strengthen staff skills to better measure project and program results; and to promote more efficient use of organizational and community resources. The manual links directly to the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) Best Practice Guidebook 7, co-developed by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in 2003.
