This training manual provides guidance on community liaison (CL) in mine action, particularly as part of mine and explosive remnants of war risk education (MRE). It has five objectives: to build agency capacity for participatory approaches to development; to consider and understand the value of community liaison as a participatory approach in mine action; to strengthen staff or beneficiary skills and techniques on facilitation; to instill a belief that behavior and attitudes matter more than methods; and to promote more sustainable approaches to mine action by increasing community participation. The manual links directly to the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) Best Practice Guidebook 6, co-developed by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in 2003.
