This case study examines the rationale, approach and lessons learned from DDG's (Danish Demining Group) Community Safety Programme in Uganda. It focuses on how DDG has adapted the programming approach to the unique complexities of the conflict-prone Karamoja region. The paper provides insights into the security context of the region, which is characterized by cross-border cattle raiding facilitated by the widespread use and availability of small arms; unpopular and often forced disarmament initiatives; community mistrust of the military and the police; and scarcity of key resources like water and grazing land.
