This paper focuses on how to reconcile mine actions, including demining activities, with protecting the environment. In particular, it 1) examines the environmental damage that can result from mine actions; 2) highlights those policies and best practices that can minimize such damage; and 3) surveys how effectively mine action organizations are using environment-friendly measures in their programs.
