This handbook describes how the international mine action community has learned a great deal concerning the efficiency and safety of clearance operations, guidelines for establishing national mine action programs, building indigenous capacities, implementing landmine impact surveys and information management. The book builds on such lessons learned, but focuses also on the inter-relationships between mine action and a country's social and economic structures. The handbook is intended to assist mine action centers and mine action organizations in improving their priority setting and operational performance.
