This paper describes how time and motion (T&M) studies offer a mechanism for completing quantitative analyses of operational demining programs. The authors detail how the primary objective of any T&M study is to develop a snapshot of a program within a defined time frame. Using such a snapshot, the details of operational procedures may be explored in order to assess how resources are used, to make comparisons among different operational situations or teams or to test different kinds of procedures. The goal of the report is to explain the principles and procedures behind T&M studies in order to make them more user-friendly and systematic.
