This report demonstrates the variation in the operational systems used to deploy mine dogs by showing four case studies. It provides a quantitative and qualitative description of operational mine detection dog (MDD) programs showing operational variation across the industry. The case studies give background information that helps in the understanding of the potential for and limitations on MDD programs in different contexts. In each case study, some comments are made about the educational standards likely to be achieved by nationals recruited into the programs.
