This article analyzes the environmental impact of demining and shows how demining not only affects the environment but also bears on development and economics. According to the author there is an overlap between post-conflict and environmental management in terms of need and consequence. The article emphasizes that environmental issues should be a significant concern when mechanical demining systems are being used. It also argues that there is a strong requirement for a demining administration, which ensures that local needs are properly addressed, both in the short term and in the longer term.
