In this article the authors discuss the research challenges presented by the concept of Remote Explosive Scent Tracing (REST). They outline the principle aspects of REST, explain its potential, discuss ways of improving the system suggested by the results of recent research and consider mechanisms that might encourage the use of REST by demining organizations.
