This handbook explains the purpose of the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and what the standards say. The UN issued the IMAS to guide the planning, implementation and management of mine action programs. The handbook touches on a number of issues, including the procurement of mine action equipment, management, accreditation and monitoring as well as risk assessment. Further chapters are devoted to mine clearance, mine action safety, stockpile destruction, education and evaluation.
