This study addresses existing and possible synergies between mine action and efforts to mitigate harmful effects of small arms and light weapons (SALW). The study asks whether there are parallels between mine action and SALW action, whether the existing mine action community can provide guidance for SALW practitioners and what the costs and benefits are of developing a more integrated approach. The study presents case studies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cambodia, and conclusions based on these cases and other sources. It concludes that there are few examples of existing synergies.
