This guide contributes to the process of road clearing by providing examples, data and methodologies from the field. It explains that clearing roads prior to the deployment of peacekeeping units, or in support of humanitarian, reconstruction or development work, is a prerequisite to a safe and successful operation. It outlines basic principles of information management in support of clearance operations, examines mine detection methodologies for roads and concludes with five guidelines for road clearance.
