This paper discusses the accomplishments of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) during its first ten-year period. It explains the mechanisms that affect the work of the CSD, and concentrates on evaluating and determining the degree of accomplishments by comparing them to the Commission's mandate. The author further evaluates which mechanisms explain the degree of the CSD's performances. It concludes that the CSD has achieved results in monitoring the process and promoting dialogue and that the member-states' positions and interests have influenced the low degree of accomplishments in the area of policy guidance.
