Jurgena Kamberaj is a Senior Researcher in the Risk and Resilience Team at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich. Her research focuses on disaster preparedness and the impact of environmental crises and emergencies on individuals, communities, and the environment.
Jurgena holds an MSc in Environmental Science from the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel, where she specialized in ecosystem services and environmental protection. Prior to joining the CSS in 2023, she worked on crisis management and disaster risk reduction at the JRC-EU Commission. There, she supported the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations with daily monitoring of extreme weather and climate events and impact assessment of worldwide environmental disasters.
Jurgena's previous engagements in ecosystem disturbance at the Azorean Biodiversity Group and Wageningen University have reinforced her eagerness to pursue a career as a policy consultant promoting sustainable and resilient approaches to disaster management. She is a strong advocate for biodiversity conservation and ecological resilience and has worked with several youth organizations. Jurgena has also been a recipient of scholarships and fellowships from the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano/Bozen in Italy.
