Mediation Support Team
The CSS Mediation Support Team seeks to develop and promote mediation methodology for dealing with violent political conflicts. Through research, training and direct process support, the team assists mediators and negotiators in improving mediation, conflict transformation and peace promotion efforts.
The team’s work is organized into three thematic areas: Mediation in Peace Processes, Religion and Mediation and Environment, Development, and Human Security
Contexts of focus for the CSS Mediation Support Team have included Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guinea, Indonesia, Kenya, OSCE area with a focus on Ukraine and South Caucasus, Palestine, North Korea, Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand and Zimbabwe.
The team offers two annual courses: the Peace Mediation Course (with swisspeace and the Swiss FDFA) and the Religion and Mediation Course (with Swiss FDFA). In addition it regularly designs and delivers tailor-made workshops and trainings with a range of institutional partners, both international (e.g. UN, OSCE), governmental (e.g. Norway, Switzerland) and non-governmental (e.g. Cordoba Foundation Geneva, Zimbabwe Peace and Security Program).
Simon Mason is a senior researcher and head of the Mediation Support Team. He focuses on mediation training, research and process support.

Mae Anna Chokr works on various projects within the Culture and Religion in Mediation (CARIM) program – a joint initiative of the CSS and the Human Security Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
