Team Defense Policy and Armaments Acquisition

The Defense Policy and Armaments Acquisition team conducts research on current dynamics at the interface of military forces development and technological innovation and analyses their possible consequences for Switzerland and Europe. One area of focus is the growing relevance of hybrid warfare and how states can strengthen their defense posture in the grey zone between war and peace. Another focus area is armaments policy, a complex and increasingly strategic policy field confronting many states – including Switzerland – with challenges, especially in relation to foreign and industrial policy. These two focus areas are linked by the central role of comprehensive approaches to security and defense – ‘total defense’ – as an instrument to improve resilience and the ability to act in coordination.
