Simon Aebi is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich and is Co-Team Head of the Risk and Resilience Team. His focus is on the risk landscape of Switzerland with regard to civil protection, crisis management, and socioeconomic resilience.
Before joining CSS, Simon worked in the financial industry for several years while completing a BSc in Banking & Finance at the University of Applied Sciences Zurich ZHAW and interned as a graduate to the political advisor at the Swiss Armed Forces Joint Operations Command after his master's degree.
Simon is also a reserve officer in the Swiss Armed Forces and has deployed as a UN military expert on mission and training officer to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in the Middle East.
He holds an MSc in Public Policy and Human Development with a focus on Risk & Vulnerability from Maastricht University and the United Nations University – Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT).
