In 2017, many European states went through democratic elections. After the interference of Russia in the US presidential election, these European states were worried to see similar actions take place during their election processes. The objective of the report is to better understand the use of cyber-activities in elections and the way states prepare themselves to counter such activities. The report analyzes the reasons of the absence of similar meddling in Europe as in the US presidential election, the technological measures taken by states to mitigate possible foreign interference and the international cooperation among states against foreign influence. As conclusion, the report suggests recommendations to mitigate the risks of foreign influence in democratic elections.
